October 21-25, George Washington Carver Freshman Campus (GWCFC) participated in anti-bullying week. This week was all about bringing awareness to bullying, not just going on here, but everywhere. There were different activities on campus each day showing not only the students, but the staff standing up against bullying. The First LoveYourself Girls Sponsor, Ms. Jessica Williams, gave information on the activities occurring during that week. First Love Yourself Girls is a “local mentoring group in Coffee County, GA…” they encourage young girls to love themselves.

F.L.Y. Girls and Williams teamed up with Student Council for the anti-bullying week. Monday was Stand Up Against Bullying. F.L.Y. Girls decorated the school with orange ribbons. Orange ribbons were used to show “we are together against bullying and UNITED for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.” On Tuesday there were F.L.Y. Stations located all around campus. The stations were used for students to write nice messages to their friends or just those who they wanted to be kind to. The messages were then delivered across campus. There were many students with smiles on their faces that day. By Wednesday, the entire school was covered in orange.Wednesday was Unity Day and the Wellness March. On this day students, faculty and staff dressed up in orange to show their support in fighting against bullying. After school there was a Wellness March that began at the Old Atlantic Coast Bank and started at 5p.m. During the march students and those who wanted to participate held signs and chanted positive messages and many other things. There was a great turnout for this event. Ms. Jessica Williams described this day as “where all ages, colors, races, sexual orientation gets together and we unite as one to tackle bullying.”

Thursday was was Pink Day and United We stand. During this day everyone wore pink for Breast Cancer awareness and no students sat alone during their lunch. Friday was a basket giveaway for students. A student’s name had to have been drawn out of a box filled with dub stubs to be able to win the giveaway. Dub Stubs are little sheets of rectangular paper given to students for following the GWC way ... As you can tell GWCFC had a week filled with many amazing activities and events that showed their support in anti-bullying.
