Douglas Walmart Distribution Center Donates Supplies That Help Fund Students

George Washington Carver Freshman Campus (GWCFC) recently had a Scholastic book fair. Students at GWCFC had a chance to go to the book fair with their second block teacher, and every student was given a $7 gift certificate to purchase a book at the book fair. 

The book coupons were made possible because of the generosity of the Douglas Walmart Distribution Center. Over the summer the Douglas Walmart Distribution Center donated a tractor trailer load of supplies and items that were used at the school, and then some of the items were sold over the summer in the GWCFC media center. Proceeds from the sale were used to give every student a $7 gift certificate that he/she could use at the book fair to buy a book or journal. Raven Williams, a student from GWCFC, said “They had a variety of books, and they did a good job advertising the books”. 

If a student was absent when his/her class went to the book fair, the student was given the opportunity to go during breaks. The book fair was a great way to encourage more students to come to the media center, purchase a book, and most importantly...READ.
